Conflict Listening

We need to listen
It’s a need that is solely lacking
A lack of it breaks our home and ruins corporation
And separates a church from the parishioners.
Away to your tent and cast your lot
I wish we could zip it and sip it just for a second

A lack of it is a bane of government
Elected leaders vow to listen
To Capital hill they flock
They become tone- deaf around the block

The clock ticks, the kick comes and goes
We hope for the click
But it’s really nothing but a flick
We really are born to listen
To be calm and absorb all the sense
And make sense of all the noise
It’s not a game of cat and mouse
All because we do not listen

Samuel did it in the middle of the night
We can start when it’s nice and bright
When we do, we can fly as a kite
The bite is gone, my sight is clear.

It helps to build bridges
It mends broken relationships and lives
It alleviates the need for armed conflict
Listening crafts a new era of a rainbow fortification
Of divergent views and opinions
Collectively making us stronger as a Unit.

We climb walls and pull down strongholds
We tear the veil of confusion that envelopes
Creating fear and torment that cripples
It becomes a never-ending torrent of monosyllables
Which taken together, never sums up to a dialogue

I stand on the mountaintop of conscience
I run to the streams of eloquence
I borrow from the buckets of wisdom
I sip into the bowels of history
The unending cracks of opportunity

Listening is a sweet wall
The tall and adaptable grass
It waves and moves and bends as the wind blows
it bows, but rarely breaks at the gust of the Hurricane

The complete rhapsody of reason
The unending chasm of essence
It escapes the truism of reality
It’s blind to the call made on main street
All it seems to suggest is ‘this is my street’
A one way street.

To truly listen, you stop
Your eyes are fixed and steady
You assimilate and analyze
Not breaking in or interrupting
The streams slowly following its path
To the fields of fresh flowers ever blossoming
At the supply of the fresh waters of the valley of the monks.
Listen.
Learn to listen.

  1. … A great write-up that serves as a necessary reminder especially in times like this when everyone seems to have something to say and cannot but voice out their opinion.

“Conflict Listening” spells out the difference between “hearing” and “listening”. Hearing is what many of us do but listening is really what we need to do.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Makes sense!!!!!! thats why we have two ears….Too many filters…..cork all the filters and just listen…..you may finally hear what the next person is saying.

  3. I think that listening, just like any other skill, has to be developed. Atmosphere is also very important to enhancing listening skills

  4. It’s a daily struggle to listen, I mean, to really listen, especially in this world of fast everything. I realized that when I am not listening, I am not learning and subsequently I am preventing possibilities and opportunities from coming my way. I only have my reactions, absolutely nothing new because my mind is closed. I bet we all want to live life to its fullest, so in order to achieve this, I better get on it. I recently learnt from my daughter’s music teacher, the acronyms for “SUCCESS” is “REFS” which stands for Respect, Effort, Focus and Self-control. Think about it, if applied to our lives, I believe we can be better listeners; I will give this try, how about you?

  5. good, I like it

The answer is to NEVER STOP LEARNING. Research has shown the benefits of keeping the brain active to support the development of new brain synapses which consequently leads to growth and prevent memory loss.

So the key to LIVING AT YOUR FINEST is to maintain continued education in all the domains of holistic health: physical, occupational, social, spiritual, environmental, emotional, intellectual, and financial.

I am just wondering on this #WellnessWednesday if you have ever said "It cost so much to be healthy"?

I have and it is true but guess what is more costly? Treating preventable lifestyle-related diseases, here is the data to prove it:

👀85 to 90% of healthcare dollars are spent on chronic diseases
👀It is estimated that 80% of chronic diseases are actually attributed to modifiable risk factors
👀Roughly 1/3 of cancers could have been prevented with improved lifestyle factors.

Wouldn't you say it is worth the investment in our time and lifestyle behaviors to adopt a holistic and healthier approach to our overall well-being so as to avoid spending an excessive amount of money on monthly prescription pills, doctors' appointments, labs, radiation, etc?

A gentle reminder that "NOTHING CHANGES IF YOU'RE NOT PRIORITIZING YOUR HEALTH."

Tell me in the comments below what you are doing currently or plan on doing to invest in your health?#healthiertogether

Happy to share some of my strategies for investing in my health- I am improving daily (#lifelonglearner).
🔍Eat nutritiously dense foods instead of calorie-dense foods.
🔍Daily movement to enable my body function at its optimal
🔍Prioritize my sleep for restorative purposes and so much more
🔍Practice self-care so I can recharge, reset, and retreat

Now it is your turn to share. I will be looking out for your strategies?
